Stay safe when buying

Scammers can potentially be active on the network.

Take care if a seller asks you to continue on WhatsApp. It is a channel they often prefer. They may offer collection or delivery, then lose interest unless you agree to pay for delivery.

Please do not pay for fish you have only discussed by WhatsApp, email, or phone unless you have seen them in person. Avoid money orders and other advance payments for livestock you have not inspected. Offers to send fish by courier after payment are a common trick — once the money has gone, the fish often never arrive.

A seller can sound convincing. Take your time, and do not feel pressured to pay before you have seen the fish.

The safest way to buy is face to face. Visit the seller, see the fish in their home tanks, and exchange payment in person. Photos or videos sent over WhatsApp are not a substitute for seeing the fish yourself.
